HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad CCS police have arrested a couple identified as Nandigam Rani and Dharmaraj from Eluru, in a case of cheating an NRI besides several others on the pretext of giving a share in their educational institution named after Sriharshita.

According to the police, Ch Srinivas, the Managing Director of an IT company in Himayatnagar, was introduced to Rani and Dharmaraju by his American friend Sudhakar.

Srinivas decided to invest in their educational institutions in Guntur and Eluru, with the promise of receiving high returns. He joined as a partner investing an amount of Rs. 7,27,85,584.

However, while Srinivas repeatedly questioned the couple about the promised profits, the couple failed to provide him with his share. Despite requests for the return of his investment, they kept postponing it and even threatened him.

Srinivas filed a complaint with the Hyderabad CCS police on July 22 who registered cases against Nandigam Rani, her husband Dharmaraju, Nandigam Lakshmi Harshita, G Krishna Rao, G Suresh, and G Ramesh, and started an investigation.

Meanwhile, the police arrested Dharmaraju and Rani on Saturday and produced them in the Nampally court, which remanded them in custody for 14 days. While Nandigam Rani was transferred to Chanchalguda Women's Jail, Dharmaraju was sent to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

It is learned that the accused have collected approximately Rs. 35 crores from around 40 people in the Telugu states and are allegedly threatening them.
