HYDERABAD: Hyderabad traffic police sought cooperation of school managements on Tuesday in order to avoid circumvent incidents by deploying traffic volunteers and security guards to direct traffic and organise the parking of vehicles transporting schoolchildren.

Hyderabad traffic police on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of school managements in the traffic conference room at traffic headquarters in Nampally to discuss traffic congestion during peak hours, children's personal safety, the condition of vehicles, school timings, and other issues.

He also insisted that school managements inform parents about the traffic congestion issues and provide parking facilities for their vehicles.

He also urged the managements of schools in a particular area or zone to fix staggered school schedules and come up with proposals before the next date of the meeting. He also emphasised about the safety of school buses and standards to be maintained according to Supreme Court of India guidelines in Writ Petition (Civil) 13029/1985 and further mandated the presence of an attendant in school buses.

Rahul Hegde urged that the school managements to organise traffic clubs in the school and encourage parents to heed traffic cops' advice. DCP Traffic-II N. Ashok Kumar outlined Supreme Court requirements regarding school buses.

DCP Traffic-III D. Srinivas asked the school managements to ensure that school buses are properly fit and well-maintained.

Representatives from the school managements asked Hyderabad Traffic to provide traffic training to their security guards, teachers, and volunteers, and they pledged their cooperation in regulating traffic in school zones and decongesting roads.
