HYDERABAD: Heavy rains continued batter Telangana causing crop losses, inundation of crop yields being dried on the fields. Hyderabad woke up to very heavy rain on Saturday. Rain wreaked havoc in many parts of the twin cities.

Himayatnagar recorded the highest rainfall at 7.78 cm at 7 am L, as per the Telangana State Development Planning Society.

This is closely followed by Khajaguda-Gachibowli; Malkajgiri; Musheerabad; Jubilee Hills, Chandanagar; Uppal, Goshamahal and the entire city.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange warning already. The skies were overcast since the wee hours of Saturday and the heavy downpour began around 5.30 am.

Telangana weatherman Balaji said around 8.45 pm on Friday: “INTENSE RAINS have now moved into Kamareddy, Narayankhed, Sangareddy will further cover Medak, Nizamabad later into Jagitial, Sircilla districts.

“Drizzles expected in Narayanpet, Mahabubnagar. Scattered rains in Nalgonda, Rangareddy. Hyderabad will have light drizzles/mainly dry.”

He, however, followed up his tweet at 5.13 am on Saturday with another which suggested: “POWERFUL THUNDERSTORMS lashing Wanaparthy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Gadwal, Vikarabad now slowly moving into Rangareddy, Siddipet, Medak, Karimnagar districts 🌧️

Get ready Hyderabad city for rains and thunderstorms after 5.40AM.”


He quickly followed up with another at 7.06 am saying: “ INSANE STORM rolling into Hyderabad. As already said in previous update, it's gonna be a widespread one for the whole city. Please stay safe Hyderabad.”

The severe storm alert was given at 6.30 am and the entire city was engulfed by very heavy rain by then. Roads were clogged and drains were choked due to the rain and further information is awaited, even as the GHMC and police teams are already on their toe.
