HYDERABAD: After hours of downpour on Saturday night, heavy rain continued to lash Hyderabad on Sunday, flooding several low-lying areas and throwing vehicular traffic out of gear and affecting normal life. Commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, faced severe hardships, bearing the brunt of the monsoon-induced rain and struggling to wade through water-logged roads at several places.

Patancheruvu, Lingampally, Gachibowli, Hi-Tech City, Kukatpally, Hydernagar, Nizampet, Pragathi Nagar, Moosapet, Bachupally, Malkajgiri, Jubilee Hills, Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Lakidikapool, Koti, Secunderabad, Begumpet, Dilsukhnagar, ECIL, Uppal and LB Nagar were among the many areas where roads were inundated. Drains in several commercial areas overflowed following the rain.

People had a tough time navigating along some of the arterial roads owing to flooding. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Telangana electricity department officials kept receiving complaints of water-logging at various points in the city. Meanwhile, GHMC’s Director of Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EV&DM) advised citizens to stay indoors to avoid any untoward incident.

The forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) suggests that heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in several districts of Telangana on Monday. These include Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jagtiyal, Rajanna Sirisilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem. Maximum temperatures are expected to be in the range of 32 to 34 degrees celsius while the minimum temperatures are likely to hover between 23 and 25 degrees celsius under the GHMC limits for the next three days.

Taking to Twitter, T Balaji, popularly known as, Telangana Weatherman, said that, with the low pressure area further deepening, there would be good rainfall all over North and Central Telangana during Sunday evening and midnight. In the coming two days, more rain was expected across North Telangana districts, he said. Hyderabad would have light to moderate rains during Sunday evening and night. Similar weather conditions would prevail in Hyderabad on Monday too, he said.
