Hyderabad’s first automated multilevel car parking at Nampally to open soon: HMRL MD NVS Reddy

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMRL) MD NVS Reddy on Sunday inspected the progress of HMRL's fully automated and computerised multi-level car parking (MLP) works, which are nearing completion.

This 15-floor MLP complex, developed as a PPP project, stands as the first of its kind in India, showcasing the German Palis parking system.

Situated on half-an-acre of HMRL land near Nampally Metro Station, the complex comprises 10 parking floors and 5 commercial floors. With a total built-up area of about 144,400 sq. ft., 68 percent is allocated for parking, accommodating approximately 250 four-wheelers and 200 two-wheelers. The remaining 32 percent serves as commercial space for shops and a cinema with two screens. M/s. Bhari Infra Pvt Ltd has undertaken the development of this ultramodern MLP complex at a cost of about Rs. 80 crore, with a concession period of 50 years.

Despite facing delays due to Covid impacts, debt financing issues, and global supply chain disruptions, all imported materials have now arrived and are being assembled by experts, said NVS Reddy.

The MLP complex employs state-of-the-art automated parking technology. On the ground floor, four 'In or Out' (I/O) Terminals with turntables are installed. Upon entering the MLP, users/drivers receive a smart card, while regular users are issued permanent RFID cards. Users/drivers are guided to the assigned I/O Terminal and, by swiping the smart card, can open the terminal gate and conveniently leave the car on the turntable.

The MD emphasised that the turntable is spacious enough for any vehicle, unlike existing automated parking complexes in Delhi, Mumbai, etc., where drivers struggle with limited designated space. Based on the vehicle's dimensions, the computerised parking system automatically classifies it as an SUV or sedan, and a transporter-shuttle takes the vehicle via lift to the allocated spot on the designated floor for parking.

To retrieve parked vehicles, drivers pay the parking fee and present the parking ticket to the card reader, after which a transporter-shuttle automatically brings back the car. Vehicles are always delivered in a manner that requires no reversing for driving out. With this highly sophisticated and efficient parking system, parking takes less than a minute, and retrieval just two minutes. This world-class parking complex will elevate Hyderabad and lead a new parking revolution in India, according to NVS Reddy.

The MD also advised MLP developers Dr. Hari Kishen Reddy, a technocrat entrepreneur, and Bhavana Reddy to expedite finishing works and commence trial runs by next month.
