AHMEDABAD: Defending champions, England, have been officially eliminated from the 2023 Cricket World Cup. They lost a critical game against Australia by a margin of 33 runs. Meanwhile, Australia has significantly improved their chances of advancing to the semifinals.
In their initial innings, Australia faced early setbacks with the loss of their opening batsmen. However, Steven Smith (44) and Marnus Labuschagne (71) steadied the ship with a 75-run partnership. Following their departure, Australia received valuable contributions from Cameron Green (47), Marcus Stoinis (35), and Adam Zampa (29), resulting in a total score of 286 runs in 50 overs. Chris Woakes (4/54) of England took four wickets in the match.
England's pursuit of this modest target crumbled, with only Dawid Malan (50), Ben Stokes (64), and Moeen Ali (42) making noteworthy contributions. Once again, Adam Zampa (3/23) showcased his spin bowling prowess, taking four wickets. Eventually, England was bowled out for 253 runs in 48.1 overs.
