BENGALURU: New Zealand appears to have secured a spot in the semi-finals with a commanding victory over Sri Lanka tonight. In a crucial match, the Kiwi players delivered a stunning performance, dominating both the batting and bowling aspects of the game.

The New Zealand bowlers were in top form during the first innings, preventing the Lankans from posting a formidable total. With wickets falling consistently, Sri Lanka struggled to recover, with only Kusal Perera (51) and Theekshana (38) making noteworthy contributions. Consequently, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 171 in 46.4 overs, with Boult (3/37) claiming three wickets and Ferguson (2/35), Ravindra (2/21), and Santner (2/22) each taking two.

New Zealand's innings kicked off strongly with a solid 86-run partnership between Devon Conway (45) and Rachin Ravindra (42). Although they fell short of half-centuries, their efforts positioned the team comfortably in the chase. Daryl Mitchell (43) later guided the innings, leading New Zealand to a score of 172/5 in just 23.2 overs.

For Pakistan to surpass New Zealand in net run rate and secure a spot in the semi-finals, they would need a significant victory against England. However, this seems highly unlikely, paving the way for a semi-final showdown between India and New Zealand.

Scorecard:

Sri Lanka: 171/10 (46.4 overs)

New Zealand: 172/5 (23.2 overs)
