HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has written a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asking for a break between two games that are scheduled to be played on two consecutive days in the ICC World Cup 2023.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGIS), Uppal would host three ICC World Cup matches including two games of Pakistan in October this year. Unfortunately, cricket lovers from Hyderabad would not be witnessing a Team India match in the World Cup.

According to reports, the HCA had approached the BCCI in the wake of security concerns raised by the Hyderabad Police to deploy its personnel for two games to be played on two consecutive days. Over 3,000 police personnel would be deployed for one game and the majority of them would be stationed at the hotel where the Pakistan team would be staying.

The Pakistan team would be playing two matches with the qualifiers. The Pakistan team would play their first match with the Netherlands on October 6,2023 and with Sri Lanka on October 10, 2023. Similarly, New Zealand would also play one game at RGIS with the Netherlands on October 9,2023. The HCA officials in their letter mentioned that they wouldn't be able to provide security for the Pakistan game the next day i.e. October 10, 2023.

As per the initial schedule announced by the BCCI, an one day international (ODI) game between Pakistan-Sri Lanka should be held on October 12, 2023. However, the BCCI had rescheduled the India-Pakistan game to be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for October 14, 2023. With this, the Pakistan game was pushed a day to October 10, 2023 to provide enough time for the players to recover for their match against India.

On the other hand, the BCCI had also rescheduled the Pakistan-England game to be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata to November 11, 2023 instead of November 12, 2023. The tickets for the World Cup are slated to go on sale from August 25, 2023 and the tournament would be underway from October 5, 2023.
