HYDERABAD: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an 'orange' heatwave warning for the next five days across Telangana State.

According to the IMD, prolonged heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana for the next five days.

The highest maximum temperature of 46.6°C was recorded at Ibrahimpet (Nalgonda). The average maximum daytime temperature for the state is 43.4°C, compared to the normal of 40.7°C.

The highest maximum temperature of 43.6°C was recorded at Nacharam (Medchal-Malkajgiri). The average maximum daytime temperature for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) areas is 42.4°C, compared to the normal of 40.0°C.

Telangana Weatherman T Balaji said, "It was the third day of peak heatwaves in Telangana. Rural Telangana will experience severe heat for the next four-five days. However, Hyderabad's heat will become severe for the next four days, likely reaching above 44°C. Some scattered storms are likely in Telangana over the next four days. Full-fledged storms expected after May 6, 2024."

May 2 (Orange): Prolonged heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam districts of Telangana.

(Yellow): Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

May 3 (Orange): Prolonged heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

(Yellow): Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, and Rajanna Sircilla districts of Telangana.

May 4 (Orange): Prolonged heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Adilabad, Komarambheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Janagaon, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

(Yellow): Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Mahabubabad districts of Telangana.

May 5 (Orange): Prolonged heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Adilabad, Komarambheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

(Yellow): Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Jangaon districts of Telangana.

May 6: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places in Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Nalgonda.
