Incessant rains lash Hyderabad, holiday declared for schools, educational institutions on Tuesday

HYDERABAD: Incessant rainfall disrupted normal life in many parts of Hyderabad and its surrounding areas on Tuesday. The State Government declared a holiday for all the schools and educational institutions in Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts on Tuesday.

Taking to Twitter, Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durishetty said, "In light of the heavy rainfall forecast in Hyderabad, the Government has declared today a holiday for all educational institutions in Hyderabad. Stay indoors and stay safe."

Many students got ready to demonstrate their skills in schools on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. Several schools have announced fun activities like “self government day” where students would enact the roles of different teachers. Some schools conducted it on Monday itself.

Hyderabad had been drenched in incessant rains since Sunday, and the India Meteorological Department – Hyderabad (IMD-H) predicted the rain would persist until Thursday morning, with an anticipated increase in intensity and issued an orange alert for Hyderabad. JP Nagar community hall in Miyapur received the highest rainfall of 140mm under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

The rain which began during the early hours of Tuesday in Hyderabad continued to lash several parts of the city included Khairatabad, Ameerpet, Somajiguda, Nampally, Malakpet, Saidabad, Old City, LB Nagar, Sagar ring road, Hastinapuram, BN Reddy Nagar, Nagole, Uppal, Habisiguda, Tarnaka, ECIL, Secunderabad, Patny, Paradise, Bowenpally, Suchitra, Kompally, Tirumalagiri, Alwal, Bolarum, Chilakalaguda, Kukatpally, Hydernagar, Nizampet, Pragatinagar, KPHB Colony, Alvin Colony, Miyapur, Quthbullapur, BHEL, Kondapur, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Panjagutta, Mehdipatnam.

Several roads and residential colonies under Rajendranagar, Attapur, Katedan, Narsingi, Manikonda, Gandipet, Bandlaguda were inundated following the incessant rains. Power supply was disrupted for a while and caused severe hardships for the people. Following the incessant rains, Telangana Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav suggested the officials at all levels to be alert to avoid inconvenience for the people.

The Minister spoke to GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose, Water Works MD Dana Kishore, TRANSCO MD Prabhakar Rao, EVDM Director NV Prakash Reddy, Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep in the wake of heavy rains. He asked the officials to ensure water logging and deploy enough staff to remove the trees and branches on the roads. GHMC's Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) advised residents not to step out of their home unless it's very essential for the next couple of hours. Taking to Twitter, T Balaji popularly known as Telangana Weatherman said, "Dear people of Hyderabad, as of now it's light raining, but get ready for another heavy downpour in the city after 8.40 am as huge rains from Medak moving in. Stay alert folks."
