HYDERABAD: Income Tax department began searches on different business establishments and individuals in Hyderabad on Thursday. Several teams were deployed by the department to more than 100 locations in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.

The I-T raids, which were conducted very regularly earlier, were given a break for a few months. Significantly, after the recent Nizamabad public meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched a blistering attack on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supremo and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the raids by the I-T department assumed importance.

The initial report suggested that among others, Jubilee Hills BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath is targeted by the Income Tax department.

The BRS has been alleging that the BJP Government in Delhi is unleashing hunting dogs like Enforcement Directorate (ED), Income Tax department (I-T) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target the opposition parties.

In fact, KCR’s daughter BRS MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha has been facing the wrath of the ED and she had appeared for long hours of questioning in the agency’s office in Delhi in the Delhi Liquor Scam.

An Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh in the Delhi Liquor Scam on Wednesday in a money laundering case. Many accused turned approvers and the ED accelerated its activity.

Against this background, the current I-T raids also point to the political vengeance being wreaked by the BJP against its rival political parties.

Further details are awaited.
