HYDERABAD: Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao on Saturday asked the officials of GHMC and other cities and towns in the State to gear up for the upcoming monsoon season and take steps to ensure that all difficulties that would crop up in rainy season were overcome before the arrival of monsoons. The Minister held a high-level review meeting with the officials of the GHMC and other civic corporations along with MLAs on the problems that arose in the monsoon season and the flood prevention program and the strategic napa development program (SNDP) undertaken by the government.

He asked the officials and the public representatives of the city to work in close coordination with one another to complete all the works associated with the rainy season by June 1.

He directed the officials to take steps to clear the drains and stated that the government had already allocated funds to clear the drains and nalas by accelerate the SNDP program, which was going on already at a brisk pace. He said that there was a chance of preventing the floods if the Nala works were completed by the end of the summer and suggested that MLAs must monitor the SNDP works in their respective constituencies.

The Minister who also discussed on water stagnation problem threadbare and asked the officials to identify the areas where the water stagnation problem prevailed and come up with a permanent solution to overcome it to prevent flooding.

He also asked the officials to pay attention to the management of water sewage, drainages, and manholes and asked them to be prepared for the upcoming monsoon.

Asking GHMC officials to take the assistance of the Disaster Response Force of the GHMC and other departments, the BRS working president advised the GHMC to identify the weak buildings that were prone to accidental collapse in the city. The ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Sabita Indra Reddy, Malla Reddy, MLAs under GHMC, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijaya Lakshmi, Municipal Commissioner along with other officials participated in this meeting.
