KTR opens Microchip development facility 1,000 jobs, T-FACE to be launched for skilling

HYDERABAD: Minister for Information Technology KT Rama Rao (KTR) formally inaugurated the Microchip Technology Inc. world-class semiconductor design and development facility at Kokapet on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, KTR said that Hyderabad would soon overtake all the major tech cities in the country such as Bengaluru, Pune and Chennai by adopting new technologies and creating an ecosystem that encourages innovation.

While congratulating the semiconductor manufacturing company for expanding the Hyderabad facility that would employ 1,000 people, the Minister said that the Telangana Government through the Telangana Academy of Skill and Knowledge (TASK) would offer training for the 1,000 young people from its end and the company could cherry pick the talented ones.

He said that the state had now embarked on launching a new initiative in the Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) space in the name of Telangana Fabulous Accelerator Cloud Enablement (T-FACE) for skilling, innovation and incubation in the semiconductor sector. “Already the T-Hub is involved in encouraging innovation and incubation,” he added.

Terming Hyderabad as the happening city for technology, he said quoting the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) data that 44 percent of the technology jobs in the country were created in Hyderabad during the current financial year.

“While only 3,23,000 tech-based jobs were created in 2020 in Hyderabad, the number grew to 9,05,000 jobs in 2023,” KTR said. He told the gathering that 40 percent of the world’s vaccines were produced in Hyderabad and in a few years, half of the world’s vaccines would be made in the city.

Explaining the possibilities of synergy between the Microchip and the Telangana Mobility Valley initiative of the Telangana government, he said that the automobile and aerospace would be two important sectors that could benefit from the nascent semiconductor industry in the country.
