HYDERABAD: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) inaugurated the Uppal Skywalk on Monday. It has been built by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) at a cost of Rs 25 crore.

The 660-metre-long skywalk is an engineering marvel and will be a game-changer for pedestrians as it will provide a safe and convenient mode of crossing the busy Uppal junction. The skywalk is equipped with eight lifts, six staircases and four elevators. The entire skywalk has been put under CCTV camera surveillance to ensure security of the pedestrians round the clock.

The skywalk will help pedestrians reach different bus stops around the junction to travel to destinations such as Ghatkesar, Secunderabad, Ramanthapur and Yadadri. Entry and exit points have been arranged in front of Nagole Road, Ramantapur Road, GHMC Theme Park, Warangal Bus Stop near GHMC Office, Uppal Police Station and Uppal Electrical Substation.

Speaking on the occasion, KTR said, “Uppal junction connects five main roads including Warangal, Nagole, road that goes to OU and Mettuguda as well. It’s a busy road which many people are scared to cross. We constructed this skywalk for the safety of everyone. As we enter the tenth year of formation of Telangana, I urge you to think about the progress we made and the development we brought.”

Apart from the skywalk, KTR also inaugurated a multi-purpose convention centre built by Shilparamam Arts Crafts and Cultural Society on the premises of Uppal Shilparamam. The centre has been at a cost of Rs 10 crore. It has a big hall that can accommodate 1,000 people, a lawn and a kitchen besides all other required amenities.
