HYDERABAD: Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao (KTR) will inaugurate the Uppal Skywalk, built by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) at the Uppal Ring Road, on Monday. He will also inaugurate a multi-purpose auditorium constructed on the premises of Uppal Shilparamam and address a public meeting.

The Uppal Skywalk was built at a cost of Rs 25 crore. Around 1,000 tonnes of steel was used to build this into a pedestrian-friendly facility. The Skywalk has six entry and exit points including the one that connects to the Metro railway station’s concourse level.

The Skywalk is aimed at helping pedestrians reach different bus stops around the junction to travel to destinations such as Ghatkesar, Secunderabad, Ramanthapur and Yadadri. The Uppal junction is also close to the sports stadium, several schools, residential colonies and business houses.

This one-of-its-kind project features eight lifts, six staircases and four elevators for the comfort of the pedestrians. The entire skywalk has been put under the CCTV camera surveillance to ensure security of the pedestrians around the clock.

The convention hall that KTR will inaugurate during his visit was built by Shilparamam Arts Crafts and Cultural Society on the premises of Uppal Shilparamam at a cost of Rs 10 crore. The convention centre has a big hall that can accommodate 1,000 people, a lawn and a kitchen besides all other required amenities.
