VISAKHAPATNAM: In a gruesome incident, a few assailants broke into the house of an officer and killed him brutally.

According to police, some unidentified assailants forcibly entered the house of Chinnagadili Rural Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) Ramanaiah in Kommadi at midnight (intervening night of Friday and Saturday) in Visakhapatnam city.

Kommadi is located on the National Highway passing the city.

The intruders attacked Ramanaiah with iron rods indiscriminately and injured him severely.

As a watchman raised an alarm, they fled the scene, leaving Ramanaiah in a pool of blood.

Soon, his family member rushed him to a hospital. However, the MRO succumbed to the injuries. Commissioner of City Police Dr Ravishankar Ayyannar visited the scene of offence. The police CLUES teams and sniffer dogs were pressed into service to identify the assailants.

⁠ As many as 12 teams were formed by Ravishankar to investigate into the case. Based on CCTV footage evidence, four suspects have been taken into custody. The suspects are being questioned by DCP Manikantha.

Ramanaiah'a parents were shocked after hearing the tragic news.

After 11 years of working as a tashildar in the revenue department across several mandals of the Srikakulam district, he was transferred to Visakha rural four years ago.

In the wake of elections, he was posted to Bantupalli in Vizianagaram district just a day before the gruesome incident. The relatives shared their shock over the murder and inquired into the incident.

Meanwhile, Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasadhara Rao condemned the tehsildar's killing. He said that he had a discussion with the Visakhapatnam commissioner and that action would be taken against those involved in the crime.
