HYDERABAD: Enormous rains and thunderstorms lashed Hyderabad on Monday evening, causing enormous congestion in traffic in the IT city.

The heavy rains that began at 6 p.m. on Monday evening caused a lot of challenges for office goers since that was the log out time for the majority of people in the workforce. Several trees were uprooted in various parts of the city, and several roads were found to be water-logged due to the heavy rainfall.

Heavy rain and flooding slowed vehicular traffic from Cancer Hospital, BRS Bhavan, Orisa Island, Road No 92, Dinosaur Park to BVB Junction. Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills traffic officers remain on the ground directing traffic, and advising commuters to take an alternate route.

Due to heavy rains and water logging, vehicle traffic experienced a delay from Anand theatre, Begumpet police lines, Prakash nagar to Rasoolpura.

The Greater Hyderarabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has put all officials on high alert to deal with any rain-related difficulties and provide support to city residents. The municipal government also encouraged residents to stay indoors since heavy rains are predicted to continue for several hours.

According to Telangana Weatherman T Balaji, the state experienced a 'Rolling Shelf Cloud,' which resulted in torrential rains over Telangana. The Rolling Shelf Cloud began in Medal district and is presently spreading to Ranga Reddy district and South Telangana.

"We received the craziest spell of July this evening. Even though the rain only lasted an hour, the pace of rainfall was enormous. For the next two hours, heavy rain from Hyderabad will move onto Rangareddy, Nalgonda, and Mahabubnagar, Vikarabad. Rains in North Telangana will strengthen in Jagitial, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and Sircilla. No rain for the next three hours in Hyderabad, and we can expect more tonight."
