HYDERABAD: Unexpected showers in many parts of Hyderabad, including Kukatpally, Qutbullapur, Jagathgirigutta, Narsingi, Manikonda, and Khajaguda, offered some relief from the scorching temperatures on Thursday.

The unexpected showers astonished city residents because it had been rather hot until late afternoon. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms formed in and around Hyderabad around 4pm and began pouring in isolated parts of the city, said Telangana Weatherman T Balaji.

Northern Telangana, which saw temperatures as high as 45°C until Wednesday, experienced scattered storms on Thursday, he noted.

Storms triggered at Meerpet, Karmanghat, Saroornagar, Dilsukhnagar, Uppal, Lb Nagar, Balapur, Saidabad, Santosh Nagar, Chaitanyapuri about 5pm and are anticipated to cover Malakpet, Charminar, OU, Amberpet, and Afzalgunj in the next hour.

He added, these are brief (20-minute) but powerful rains that only occur in high heat. The fast shower caused by heavy rainfall, on the other hand, has an effect on the humidity. According to T Balaji, we might expect these rains every evening due to the extreme heat.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rain or thunder showers are highly likely to occur at places over Telangana until April 17, 2023. Telangana is under a yellow alert for the next two days.

Thunderstorms with lightning are quite likely to occur in isolated locations in a few districts of Telangana, according to the Indian Metrological Department (IMD).
