HYDERABAD: The Central Zone Task Force team along with Nampally police have traced the identity of a six-month-old baby boy Faisal Khan kidnapped from Niloufer Hospital on September 14. Two people were arrested by the police in this case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central Zone, Hyderabad M Venkateswarulu on Wednesday said that the two accused were identified as K Mamtha and her husband K Srinu. The duo hails from Kamareddy district. Based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother Fareeda Begum, the Nampally police registered a missing case on September 14 and launched an inquiry into the incident, he said.

The DCP said that on September 14, Fareeda Begum along with her mother came to Niloufer hospital for her elder son’s treatment. Fareeda Begum’s mother was with her elder son and she was herself taking care of her six-month-old boy and waiting in the patients' waiting lounge. At that moment, Mamtha made acquaintance with Fareeda Begum and said she had a two-month-old baby boy who was undergoing treatment for an issue.

At around 6:30 pm, Fareeda Begum fed her baby, put him to sleep on the floor and went for a grub. The accused Mamtha put her baby by the side of Fareeda’s son and she took away the baby boy. Later, when Fareeda Begum returned, she found her six-month-old son missing and the accused also fled the spot, he said.

Venkateswarulu said that taking serious note of the child’s abduction from Niloufer Hospital, the Central Zone task Force teams along with the police personnel from Nampally and Saifabad used technology and traced the accused persons to Banswada in Kamareddy district. They rescued an abducted six-month-old baby boy from the clutches of the accused safely and handed the baby over to his parents on Wednesday, he said.

Motive behind the kidnap

The DCP said that the accused Mamtha and Srinu were previously blessed with two boys and the children died due to genetic disease. Recently she was blessed with a boy 10 days back in her native village and doctors informed her that the boy was suffering from Hyperviscosity Syndrome (which is a group of symptoms triggered by an increase in the viscosity of the blood). They thought this boy would also die due to the aforementioned problem. Then she, along with her husband hatched a plan to kidnap a baby boy from Niloufer hospital by leaving her ill infant baby, he said.

As per their plan on September 14, the accused along with their infant boy came to Niloufer Hospital in the evening and searched for another infant boy for kidnapping. In their search, they targeted Fareeda Begum’s six-month-old boy. Then Mamtha made acquaintance with Fareeda Begum and had a conversation with the intention of diverting her and abducting the infant baby boy. Taking advantage of the situation, at 6:30 pm the couple kidnapped Fareeda’s son.

After kidnapping the baby boy, Mamtha left Niloufer Hospital by walking out and later she took an autorickshaw. She reached the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) and informed her husband to reach the JBS from Niloufer Hospital. Both the accused met at the JBS, boarded the Nizamabad bus and reached their native place. The accused were shifted to Nampally police station for further questioning, the DCP said.
