HYDERABAD: As part of the wildlife education and awareness programme, World Snake Day was celebrated on Sunday at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad.

A snake awareness programme was conducted at the reptile house in collaboration with the Friends of Snakes Society. Friends of Snakes Society members along with Zoo staff members explained the facts about snakes to the visitors. They talked about various types of snakes, and explained how to identify venomous from nonvenomous snakes.

They pointed out the measures to be taken if someone was bitten by a snake. They impressed the visitors about the role snakes play in maintaining ecological balance.

Prashant Bajirao Patil, IFS, Curator, Nehru Zoological Park and A Nagamani, deputy curator, stated that the zoo had been celebrating all the ecological days to bring more awareness among the people and requested all citizens to come forward and participate.
