HYDERABAD: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday simultaneously conducted raids on multiple locations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in connection with cases against the Maoists and their sympathisers, particularly civil liberties leaders.

The raids in atleast 60 places began during the early hours on Monday on residences and offices of advocates, revolutionary poets and APCLC (Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee) leaders.

In Hyderabad, the NIA searched the residence of civil liberties leader D Suresh in Vidyanagar and Member of ‘Amarula Bandhu Mitrulu Sangham’ Lawyer Bhavani and their relatives in Alwal. Searches are going in Shadnagar and several other places in Hyderabad and also in Warangal.

On the otherhand, NIA undertook a massive search operation in houses and offices of civil liberties leaders on suspicion that these sympathisers were financing the Maoists under the garb of civil activism and women's associations.

SupremeCourt Advocate Namburi Laxminarayana’s residence at Kovvuru, APCLC general Secretary Yellanki Venkateswarlu, Aruna, Annapurna and Anusha, all activists in Nellore, Dr Raja Rao in Guntur, Lawyer Kranti Chaitanya in Tirupati, Arasavalli Krishna a revolutionary poet in Vijayawada, Advocate Nasar in Rajamahendravaram, Sriramulu of Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi in Anantapuram, Duddu Venkatrao, Srinivasa Rao in Santamaguluru, Ammisetti Radha in Mangalagiri, Battula Ramanayya in Tadepalli, Konala Lazar in Rajamahendravaram rural, were under NIA scanner.

NIA also raided the residence of Salina Veeraswamy of Makannapalli village in Srikakulam district. NIA officers found incriminating literature at the residence of Jogi Kodanda of Gadur village in the same district.
