HYDERABAD: Refuting all reports, OGH Superintendent Dr B Nagender on Tuesday confirmed that the JN.1 Covid variation is mild and that the patient who recently died at OGH did not die because of COVID-19.

Shubhan, a 60-year-old male patient from Bandlaguda, Doodh Bowli, Hyderabad, was admitted to OGH acute medical care with a medical emergency of acute onset of COPD with severe left ventricular dysfunction (Heart failure) and type 2 respiratory failure.

A patient died on December 24, 2023, due to severe heart failure, not COVID and coincidentally his COVID test report resulted in a positive result. Three individuals with various medical conditions have been admitted to OGH isolation ward and tested positive, with three remaining stable.

He said that the State administration is fully committed to combating the rise in cases. Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha and other officials were conducting regular reviews with hospitals and providing necessary recommendations for institutions to follow.

Superintendent Dr. B Nagender said, "There is a report in the media that a patient died in Osmania General Hospital due to covid which is incorrect. Subhan, a 60-year-old male patient from Bandlaguda, Hyderabad, was admitted to our emergency department with a medical emergency of Acute Onset COPD with Severe Left Ventricular Dysfunction (Heart Failure) and Type 2 respiratory failure.

"Coincidentally, the patient's COVID was also positive. However, the patient died on December 24, 2023 due to severe heart failure, not COVID. Three patients with medical emergencies were admitted to our isolation ward and tested positive for COVID-19, all of whom are currently stable. The patients admitted with other medical emergencies and as coincidentally found positive for covid are put in isolation and all necessary treatment is given, " he added.
