Orange alert: rain, thunderstorms for 5 days in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad experienced torrential rainfall, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in many parts of the city on Tuesday evening. The traffic came to a halt unexpectedly, leaving many commuters stranded on their way home from work this evening.

The whole Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) areas saw thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and hailstorms beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening, according to the Indian Metrological Department (IMD). Rain and thunderstorms were expected to last 30-60 minutes, according to IMD.

Telangana Weatherman T Balaji forecasted on Twitter, "It's going to be a deadly hailstorm with huge winds and thunderbolts in many parts of Hyderabad city in the next 1 hour." be indoors and be safe, RED ALERT for the city. The entire city will be inundated with rain soon."

A Twitter user Faiz Sayed, on his handle @faizsayed528 posted a video of the thunderstorm and commented, “How long it will it rain, raining insanely after a long time hearing such huge and dangerous noises of lightning and thunder.”

Another twitterati, with the name Bright07, wanted to know if the rain stops by 8 pm or prolongs. “Will it stop by 8 Or does it prolong !!! I am at my office (raidurg) and thinking of starting my home (ECIL).”

Another Twitter user tweeted, "This is probably the most powerful rain & wind I have seen in many many years. Hope everyone stays safe".
