HYDERABAD: Hundreds of nurses working with the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on Tuesday staged a protest, accusing the director of pressuring them and burdening them with additional duties.

According to reports, the nurses boycotted their duties and staged the protest after being assigned more responsibilities. They demanded that the NIMS instead recruit more nurses.

The flash strike has had its significant impact on both inpatient and outpatient services, with doctors forced to postpone surgeries since Monday night due to shortage of the nursing staff.

As per records, there were just 800 nurses employed at NIMS despite the fact that the facility should have 2,300 nurses. The nursing staff boycotted their duties protesting against what they described as the workforce exploitation which, they felt, was adversely affecting them.

The nurses claimed that they were also issued memos for speaking out against the exploitation. They demanded that the memos be withdrawn immediately. They also demanded that the Grade 1 Nursing Superintendent be promoted. They also demanded that the director be replaced.
