HYDERABAD: Road safety experts emphasised that the peril associated with using low-quality helmets is more significant than not using one at all during an awareness programme held at KBR Park in Hyderabad on Sunday.

The program aimed to prevent numerous deaths and disabilities caused by riding two-wheelers without helmets.

The program, led by renowned Neurosurgeon Dr. Pratap Kumar and Class 11 student Priyanshu Nandigama from Aga Khan Academy, involved traffic police and doctors explained the personal, family, and societal losses resulting from not wearing helmets. DCP Traffic Subba Rayudu highlighted the high incidence of deaths among two-wheeler riders in road accidents.

Underlining the importance of helmets for both riders and pillion passengers, ACP Cyberabad Mattaiah emphasized the need for protective measures. Pediatrician Dr. Srikanth stressed the impact of road accidents on the youth, linking them to both loss of life and economic consequences.

Priyanshu, leading the program, asserted that using low-quality helmets is riskier than not using one at all. Free helmets were provided to riders without them, along with roses to encourage adherence to traffic rules and the use of quality helmets.

The participation of the Fit India Foundation, led by President Swamy, along with students, youth, KBR Park walkers, and Hyderabad traffic police, showcased a united effort in promoting road safety awareness.
