HYDERABAD: The Commissioner's Task Force, East Zone Team, along with Masab Tank police on Sunday apprehended a pseudo police officer who was cheating the public by pretending to offer jobs in the police department. They seized a sub-inspector police uniform, a mobile phone, and a two-wheeler from his possession.

The police arrested Kadavath Somla Naik (44), a car driver and resident of Banjara Hills and confiscated khaki pants and shirt, shoulder flaps with two stars (2), police shoes and socks, a police cap, a name plate, a unicorn two-Wheeler, and a Vivo mobile phone.

Naik had studied up to Intermediate from Govt. Junior College, Ghanpur, Hyderabad. Previously, he had been selected as a soldier in the Army and underwent training at the Artillery Centre. However, after six months of training, he absconded. In 2004, he appeared for Assam Rifles recruitment and was selected as a soldier but had to leave training as he suffered from hydrocele disease.

He also attempted police recruitments in undivided Andhra Pradesh but did not succeed. Subsequently, he started working as a car driver in Hyderabad. Driven by his passion for the uniformed force, he began wearing police uniforms since 2012 and impersonating a police officer.

He attended various gatherings in police uniform, posing as a sub-inspector of police and police constable. Eventually, his villagers and locals started believing him to be a real police officer. To make easy money, he started cheating job seekers, promising to provide police jobs directly.

He dishonestly collected Rs. 2,00,000 from one victim from Gowri Shanker Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, and cheated him. In total, he collected Rs. 11,00,000 from various victims.

Naik, along with the seized property, was handed over to the SHO of Masab Tank police station for necessary action. The arrest was made under the supervision of Ande Srinivasa Rao, additional deputy commissioner of police, commissioner's task force, Hyderabad, A. Nagarjuna, inspector of police, East Zone Task Force, and SIs Karunakar Reddy, P. Ananth Chary, and P. Nagaraju, along with the East Zone task force team.
