HYDERABAD: The Rachakonda police busted two interstate Ganja peddling rackets and seized a total of 270 kilograms of the narcotic substance. Accused persons who belong to Rajasthan and Maharashtra States were arrested.

Acting on a tip, the sleuths of the Special Operation Team (SOT), LB Nagar zone team along with Abdullapurmet police busted an interstate ganja peddling racket and seized 200 Kgs of ganja from their possession on Saturday.

Rakesh Chowhan, Bajrang Singh, Pavan, and Samer Ram Lall from Rajasthan were arrested and 200 kgs of contraband, Rs 50,000, five mobile phones and a car all worth Rs 45 lakh were confiscated from them.

Rachakonda Commissioner of Police D S Chauhan addressing the media said that the accused wanted to earn easy money by transporting ganja from Odisha and selling it in Rajasthan. They purchased ganja and concealed the same in the car and were proceeding to Rajasthan, en route, Rachakonda police apprehended them near ORR and seized the contraband from their possession.

“As we have laid a huge dragnet covering the supply and demand side and also keeping a watch on addicts the peddlers are changing their modus operandi. This time they tried changing the number plates and routes,” the Commissioner of Police said.

To mislead the police, the accused used different number plates for the same car and also took the new route i.e., Sileru, Chintur, Bhadrachalam, Khammam, Suryapet, ORR, Medchal, Kamareddy, Adilabad, Nagpur, Bhopal, Kota, Ajmer of Rajasthan State. The accused were produced before the Court for judicial remand.

In a second case, during the wee hours of Saturday, the SOT, LB Nagar zone team along with Pochampally police apprehended two interstate drug peddlers near Juluru crossroads, Pochampally, under the limits of Pochampally police station. Repeat offenders Devraj Teju Pawar and Sachin Subhash from Maharashtra were arrested and 70 kgs of ganja and two mobile phones all worth Rs.15 lakh.

The accused went to Araku of Vishakapatnam and purchased 70 kg of ganja and, at their request, the seller arranged a vehicle to the outskirts of Hyderabad. They concealed the material in the vehicle, got off to Juluru X Road and sent back the vehicle.

On Saturday, while they were waiting for another vehicle arranged by the receiver along with the contraband, the Rachakonda police apprehended them along with 70 Kgs of dry ganja.
