HYDERABAD: Advocates in Ranga Reddy are engaged in a tussle with district court employees following controversial comments made by an employees' union leader on Independence Day.

On the occasion of Independence Day celebrations, the union leader raised several issues related to the court staff. He expressed concern over pressure and harassment they were facing everyday in the court post-bifurcation of the State due to dearth of staff.

Taking potshots at the advocates, the union leader went on to allege that the advocates were pressurising the staff for details of cases and clients of concerned advocates. "Advocates should not think that they are the superiors. There is a hierarchy. Staff has been working hard and most of the time, leave home by 8 PM. There is excess burden on us due to the lack of employees after bifurcation of the State," he said.

The comments sparked protests among lawyers, leading them to boycott duty on Wednesday. The lawyers demanded suspension of the union leader who spoke inappropriately against them. The issue is yet to be resolved.
