HYDERABAD: Telangana IT and MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao asked Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar on Friday to set up a mechanism at railway and bus stations around the state that enables secure transportation for women that can be tracked by police as well as other authorities.

This proposal came after a Hyderabad woman, Harshitha, approached the minister on Twitter, urging that women across the state be provided with safe transportation.

She sought safe transportation mostly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., when public transportation is usually unavailable to women.

Harshitha took to Twitter, saying, "@KTRBRS @RaoKavitha As a gift to women, I would like to request that you provide secure transportation (cab/auto) to women outside Secunderabad Railway Station from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. when public transportation/metro is not available".

KTR, who is noted for his rapid responses on social media, responded to her request swiftly, tweeting, "Request @TelanganaDGP to consider this at the earliest and institute such a mechanism at all Railway and Bus stations across the state. Thank You Harshitha garu for your suggestion".

DGP Anjani Kumar, who promptly reacted to KTR's request, said this would be a great initiative in providing safe and secure transportation as well as a tracking system for women across the state. He said that he would look into the possibilities of implementing this mechanism as soon as possible.

DGP Anjani Kumar replied, "Sure Sir. This would be a great initiative to provide safe and secure transport for women, along with a tracking mechanism. We will explore possible ways to put this into action".
