HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Metro Rail project near Falaknuma in the Old City of Hyderabad on Friday.

The extended Green Line will pass through Darulshifa, Purani Haveli, Etebar Chowk, Alija Kotla, Mir Momin Daira, Haribowli, Shalibanda, Shamsheer gunj, Aliabad and end at Falaknuma Metro Rail station. The line will be further extended by another 1.5 km from Falaknuma to Chandrayangutta, which will be developed as a major interchange station on the newly planned Airport line of Nagole to Shamshabad Airport.

Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said that from Quli Qutb Shahi to Nizams, everyone worked for the city's development. "We are moving ahead with more development programs to uphold the image of Hyderabad city. Politics should be done only during elections, and during the rest of the time, our focus should be on development," he said.

Revanth Reddy said the Old City was the original Hyderabad city, and his government was working hard to develop it fully. He said a master plan was being prepared to develop the Musi catchment area. He said he had already visited London, along with MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, to study the model of the Thames River. "We will beautify the Musi River catchment area within 55 km of the city from Gandipet," he said.

He said that phase 2 of the Metro Rail project would benefit the poor and middle class. The project would be expanded from the Owaisi Hospital, Chandrayanagutta, Myladevapally, to the international airport at Shamshabad. He said a metro junction would come up at Chandrayanagutta.

The Chief Minister also announced that Chanchalguda Central Prison would be shifted to some other place, and the land would be utilised to establish educational institutions. "We are responsible for developing every lane in Hyderabad city," he said.

Revanth Reddy said that the Congress party had the credit of implementing a four per cent reservation for minorities in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, which was still going on. He said the four percent Muslim quota had benefited lakhs of poor Muslims.

Stating that the Congress would be in power in Telangana for 10 years, he said the Congress Government would develop Hyderabad as promised.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the new building of Telangana Minority Residential School at Golconda. The building, constructed for Rs 20 crore, could accommodate 496 students.

Advisor to the Telangana Government (SC, ST, BC & Minorities) Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Hyderabad MP & AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi, MLAs Kausar Mohiuddin, Ahmed Balala, and Mir Zulfeqar Ali, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, and senior officials were present in these programs.
