HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway (SCR) zone recorded a gross originating revenue of Rs. 20,339.36 crores in FY 2023-24, marking the highest since its inception and a 7 percent increase from the previous record of Rs. 18,976 crores achieved in 2022-23.

One major factor contributing to this growth was the zone's emphasis on meeting passenger demand. The zone continuously monitored demand across various routes, introducing new trains and special trains as needed, and augmenting existing trains with extra coaches. During FY 2023-24, 6,921 extra coaches were temporarily attached to 117 trains to meet increased passenger demand.

These initiatives led the zone to achieve its best-ever originating passenger earnings of Rs. 5,731.8 crores. Additionally, the zone transported 262.62 million originating passengers in 2023-24, compared to 255.59 million in 2022-23.

Another significant factor in the record earnings was the remarkable performance in the freight segment. In FY 2023-24, SCR achieved an originating freight revenue of Rs. 13,620 crores, the highest-ever figure and a 4.4 percent increase from the previous year. The focus on diversifying traffic streams and enhancing existing commodity baskets through customer-centric initiatives included the establishment of six new Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals and the inauguration of three new sidings.

Moreover, significant enhancements were made to several goods sheds to streamline loading and unloading processes for freight customers. These efforts resulted in SCR achieving its highest-ever originating loading of 141.12 million tonnes, a historic milestone for the zone.

South Central Railway also achieved its best-ever revenue in other coaching segments during 2023-24, including parcel revenue and ticket checking revenue.

The zone registered Rs. 512 crores in other coaching segments in 2023-24, compared to Rs. 414.87 crores in 2022-23. Additionally, the zone registered Rs. 474 crores in sundry earnings, a 28 percent increase from the previous year, when earnings were Rs. 369 crores.

The general manager of South Central Railway commended the efforts of his team of officers and staff for their outstanding achievement. He advised the officials to maintain the same level of dedication in the current financial year to achieve even greater success and further enhance the standards of rail transportation for the benefit of rail passengers.
