SHE teams catch 488 romeos for teasing women during Ganesh festivities

HYDERABAD: SHE teams, who were deployed to observe Ganesh pandals and other crowded areas during the Ganesh festivities this year, caught 488 persons red-handed while indulging in obscene acts and were involved in touching or following women inappropriately.
During the Ganesh festival from September 18 to 28, SHE teams caught these romeos at Bada Ganesh, NTR Marg, Tank Bund, and Khairatabad with video evidence. When the women were busy in immersion and other devotional activities in crowded areas, these people took advantage of the situation and indulged in inappropriate acts.
These accused were from different professions, such as auto drivers, private employees and even Government employees. They caused embarrassment to women by touching them inappropriately and passed lewd comments and gestures.
Out of 488 cases, 122 petty cases were registered and produced before the court wherein few persons received sentences of 3 to 6 days and others were warned and counseled. In all, 255 cases would be presented before the Magistrate.
To provide a safe environment to the women of Hyderabad city, in public places as well as during transit, SHE teams operate in mufti and regularly move around the crowded and scheduled areas where there is a possibility of harassment or teasing of women. Wherever such harassment or teasing is noticed, the respondents were nabbed with video evidence, and relevant cases were registered against the culprits.
