Swiggy takes cognizance of NewsTAP’s story on its staffer’s death, assures relief

HYDERABAD: The death of an online food delivery executive in a road accident in a metro like Hyderabad on a busy day would have gone unnoticed.

But digging into the family background of Akula Durga Prasad, the deceased Swiggy delivery boy, one will find that he left the world leaving a family of three, that needed him the most.

Waiting at the mortuary to receive her husband’s dead body on Thursday, Akula Prabhavathi who was stuck in a big city that she recently migrated from Kakinada a coastal city in Andhra Pradesh, had a story to tell if someone can spare a minute.

A sick son and a daughter lost their father just as when they were trying to be a part of the city that become home for many who come here in search of a livelihood.

Many concerned citizens tried to get in touch with the Durga Prasad family members to help them financially through cloud funding, but assurance of immediate relief also came from Swiggy after the story was published.

In a statement, Swiggy’s representative said that the company was deeply saddened by the untimely loss of their delivery partner Akula Durgaprasad in a road accident.

“I am connecting with you on behalf of Swiggy. This is for a recent story regarding a tragic accident of a Swiggy delivery boy that has been published on your portal,” the statement read.

“Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Our local team has visited the police station and hospital and has been in constant touch with the family since the incident. While nothing can make up for their loss, we will be supporting them in all possible ways, including ongoing expenses (transportation to his village, funeral expenses, etc.). We’re also in touch with the family to process his insurance," Swiggy spokesperson said.
