HYDERABAD: Telangana Director General of Police Anjani Kumar said here on Thursday that the nature of crime had changed over time from grave offences like dacoity to the ones involving gadgets. He said that all crimes in the current times were linked to gadgets while identity theft had emerged as the biggest crime.

“A person can create another person with the same identity using stolen data,” Anjani Kumar said while interacting with police personnel undergoing training on Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

He appreciated DoT for bringing all the stakeholders onto one platform to handle crimes like mobile theft.

He appreciated Additional Director General of Police, CID, Mahesh M Bhagwat and officers from DoT for proactively pursuing this project. He reiterated the need for all police officers to update themselves with newer technologies to enable them to solve technology-driven crimes.

He also appreciated newer police officers with good tech skills and urged the Superintendents of Police (SPs) to create a good atmosphere for them to flourish and help improve the system.

Anjani Kumar aspired that the Telangana police flag should always fly high and the State police maintain its status as number one in the country.

Mahesh Bhagwat has briefed Anjani Kumar on the CEIR project of blocking IMEI of lost or stolen mobile phones and unblocking the same when a mobile phone is recovered. In Telangana, login IDs have been created for all the 746 police stations, Police Commissionerates and district offices. Once training at police station level is over, soft-launching of the project will be done, he added.

DoT Director Murali Krishna, Additional Director Raghav Reddy and SP Intelligence SM Vijay Kumar addressed master trainers even as hands-on-training was conducted for a day.

Sixty officers of various ranks from police constables to Inspectors and DSPs attended the one-day training. These officers will return to their units and in turn impart the training on police station-level nodal officers.
