Telangana Drug Control Admn busts blood, plasma racket by blood banks

HYDERABAD: In a shocking incident, the Drug Control Administration (DCA) in Telangana has detected human plasma and blood racket by a few blood banks in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

A firm by name ‘Haemo Service Laboratories’ is illegally collecting human plasma, whole human blood and serum from various blood banks and carrying out unauthorised stocking at a residential apartment building located at Bhavani Nagar, Moosapet, Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

Haemo Service Laboratories is also carrying out repacking of the in extremely unhygienic conditions and selling them at an exorbitant price to various entities unlawfully.

The details are as follows:

Drugs Control Administration officials, on credible information, carried out a raid on February 2 at ‘Haemo Service Laboratories’.

During the raid, DCA officials found huge stocks of human plasma bags and bottles stocked in the freezers located on the premises.

Stocks of human serum and blood are also found in the freezers.

R. Raghavendra Naik has been running the firm ‘Haemo Service Laboratories’ for the last 8 years in the apartment and collecting plasma from various blood banks illegally and stocking them for sale in an unauthorised manner.

During the raid, DCA officials found that Raghavendra Naik is also carrying out repacking of Human Plasma, Whole Human Blood and Human Serum on the premises in extremely unhygienic conditions.

During the raid, Raghavendra Naik revealed that he illegally procured them from the following blood banks:

1. Srikara Hospital Blood Bank, Mythri Nagar, Madinaguda, Miyapur, Ranga Reddy District

2. New Life Blood Center, Abid Ali Khan Lions Eye Hospital, Darulshifa, Hyderabad.

3. RR Hospital Blood Bank, Bhagya Nagar, Dharmapet, Kurnool.

During the raid, officials detected sale of Human Plasma, Whole Human Blood and Human Serum to Actimus Biosciences Pvt. Ltd., Visakhapatnam, Clians Labs (P) Ltd., IDA Balanagar, Hyderabad, Clinovi Research Pvt. Ltd., Pune, G7 Synergon Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru, Micro Labs Bengaluru, Norwich Clinical Services Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, QPS Bioserve India Pvt. Ltd., Balanagar, Hyderabad, Shilpa Medica Ltd., IDA Mallapur, Hyderabad, Zenrise Clinical Research Pvt. Ltd., Madinaguda, Hyderabad and Vimta Labs Ltd., Cherlapally, Hyderabad.

During the raid, DCA officials found that R. Raghavendra Naik procured more than 6,000 units from the blood banks since 2016 and sold them at huge profits illegally. DCA found that Human Plasma bag (150 ml) procured illegally at Rs. 700 was sold at Rs. 3,800 to the firms.

DCA officials also found in-vitro diagnostic kits regarding HIV, HCV, HBsAg, VDRL and Malarial Parasite stocked on the premises.

DCA officials seized stocks found at the premises along with certain documents. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.

Drugs Control Administration has been constantly on the vigil and alert to detect such unlicensed activities.

Surprise checks are intensified on such entities which are carrying out illegal activities without any drug licence.
