HYDERABAD: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration seized certain medicines on Wednesday due to misleading advertisements in several parts of Hyderabad.

During a special drive conducted on April 23-24 to detect medicines with misleading and objectionable advertisements in the market, the DCA identified certain products across the city.

In Goshamahal, Drugs Inspector detected ‘CARDINOL JOSHANDA’, a Unani medicine manufactured by Ahmed & Company in the Gaganpahad area of Hyderabad. The product label bears a misleading claim stating that it clears heart blockages.

Stocks of the medicines were seized during the raid conducted at a medical shop in M.J. Market, Abids, Hyderabad. Meanwhile, in Yousufguda, another Drugs Inspector detected ‘Colinol-SPAS TABLETS’ (Mefenamic Acid and Dicyclomine Hydrochloride Tablets IP), an allopathic medicine manufactured by Vivimed Labs Ltd., in Kundeshwari Village, Kashipur, Uttarakhand.

Medicines stocks were seized during the raid conducted at a medical shop in Madhuranagar, Hyderabad. The label of the product bears a misleading claim stating that the product treats spasmodic dysmenorrhea and menstrual disorders.

Advertising a medicine for the treatment of 'heart diseases' and ‘disorders of menstrual flow’ is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

T. Rajamouli, Assistant Director, Hyderabad; V. Ajay, Drugs Inspector, Goshamahal; C. Vivekanda Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Yousufguda; and P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam, are among the officers who carried out the raids.

Telangana Drugs Control Administration officials detected these medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat 'heart diseases' and 'disorders of menstrual flow'.

Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

No person shall take part in the publication of advertisements regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
