HYDERABAD: Telangana Drugs Control Administration seized Vatharin capsules—an Ayurvedic medicine—in Nizamabad on Tuesday due to its false claim of treating 'Rheumatism' (inflammation, stiffness, and pain in the joints or muscles).

Officials from the Telangana Drugs Control Administration discovered Vatharin capsules were circulated with misleading claims on their labels, falsely suggesting effectiveness against 'Rheumatism.' This violates the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

The Act prohibits the advertisement of certain drugs for the treatment of specific diseases and disorders.

In special raids conducted on March 11-12, officials from the Nizamabad Zone of the Drugs Control Administration discovered 'Vatharin' Capsules manufactured by Sri Bhavani Pharmaceuticals & Distributors at Bhagwathi Ayurveda Bhandar, located on Devi Road in Nizamabad. Stocks were seized during the raids.

Advertisement of a medicine for the treatment of 'Rheumatism' is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

Officers, including N. Narasaiah, Assistant Director in Nizamabad, V. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector in Nizamabad Urban, and V. Upender, Drugs Inspector in Jagtial, conducted the raid. Further investigation will be conducted, and appropriate legal action will be taken against the offenders.

Individuals found guilty of making misleading advertisements regarding drugs for treating specific diseases and disorders can be subject to imprisonment for up to six months, a fine, or both, under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
