Telangana Governor asks VC of KNRUHS to probe Preethi’s death thoroughly
She also proposed improving the grievance redressal procedure and establishing a student counselling unit in each medical institution

HYDERABAD: Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan wrote to the Vice Chancellor of the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) on Tuesday, taking a serious note of Dr. Preethi's suicide.
The governor, who described Preeti's death as a tragic incident, demanded a comprehensive investigation from all conceivable perspectives to uncover the truth. The Governor's office has also demanded a full report on the Standard Operating Procedures in place to deal with incidences of harassment and ragging at the health sciences university.
The letter also enquired about the SOP guidelines in place to deal with the medicos' and Assistant Professors' working hours, as well as the establishment and operation of CC cameras at medical institutions and hospitals.
The Governor's letter also addressed issues such as the functioning of the Grievance Redress Cell, addressing the concerns of victims, evaluating feedback from medicos, and their working conditions.
The letter further claimed that the concerned authorities wasted crucial time by transporting the victim to the NIMS Hospital. Instead, the super specialised experts and necessary modern medical equipment should have been relocated to MGM Hospital in order to provide Dr. Preethi with the finest possible care, she suggested.
The letter also sought a report on the university's anti-ragging policies and mechanism, which are supervised by the vice chancellor.
The Governor also called for the stringent enforcement of anti-ragging and anti-harassment rules in medical colleges, with a special emphasis on protecting students, particularly female medicos.
She also proposed improving the grievance redressal procedure and establishing a student counselling unit in each medical institution led by the HoD of the Psychiatry section.
The Governor asked the Vice Chancellor to raise awareness among the medicos and professors, as well as establish appropriate strategies for avoiding similar incidents in the future.
