HYDERABAD: Telangana State leads the country in percentage of recovered lost/stolen mobile devices using the Central Equipment Identity Register(CEIR) Portal, with 10,018 mobile devices recovered and a recovery rate of 39 percent, followed by Karnataka 36 percent and Andhra Pradesh 30 percent respectively.

DGP Anjani Kumar on Friday congratulated ADG CID Mahesh M. Bhagwat and his team for their consistent monitoring and assistance in achieving unit-level team success.

CEIR Portal was developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to curb the menace of mobile theft and counterfeit mobile devices Telangana Police recovering mobile phones using CEIR portal has proven to be a boon to citizens of Telangana.

The CEIR portal was officially launched nationwide on May 17, 2023 and was started on pilot basis in Telangana State from April 19, 2023 whereas in Karnataka state in September 2022.

Mahesh M. Bhagwat, Addl. DGP, CID, was appointed as the Nodal Officer for the CEIR portal in Telangana State, which operates in all 780 police stations across the State.

ADGP, CID monitors the progress of work under CEIR portal as a result of which 10,018 lost/stolen mobile devices were recovered in a span of 189 days, of which the last 1,000 were recovered in 14 days and handed over to complaints.

Within Telangana State, Cyberabad Commissionerate contributed significantly and recovered 1,428 mobile devices; Hyderabad Commissionerate recovered 1,206; and Rachakonda Commissionerate recovered 912 mobile devices, followed by Warangal Commissionerates and Kamareddy.

Telangana Police, in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has successfully integrated the CEIR portal with the TS Police Citizen Portal to improve user experience. Citizens were advised to use the TS Police Citizen portal instead of visiting Mee Seva or Police Stations to report lost or missing mobile devices.

The CEIR application is currently implemented in the state by Dr. Lavanya NJP, SP, Cyber Crime, CID, T.S. Hyderabad, in collaboration with DOT officials including Y. Sreenivasa Rao, DDG Security, Yeshendra Kumar Bansod, Director Security, G. Raghava Reddy, Additional Director, and Suresh Babu, Inspector of IT Cell, CID.
