HYDERABAD: Tension prevailed at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) office on Friday, when the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders staged a protest demanding that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government provide Rs 10,000 relief for the flood affected families in Hyderabad.

Following a call given by the TPCC President A Revanth Reddy to lay siege to the GHMC office over monsoon unpreparedness in Hyderabad, Congress senior leaders including V Hanumanth Rao, Mallu Ravi, former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, Anil Kumar Yadav and other leaders took out a rally from Gun Park to GHMC office carrying placards ‘Save Hyderabad’ and ‘Down Down BRS'.

As part of the rally, the Congress leaders also raised slogans against the BRS Government and GHMC for its failure in handling the flood situation as several people were facing a tough time after rain waters gushed into their houses. On that occasion, the enraged Congress leaders demanded KT Rama Rao (KTR) to resign as Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD).

A tense atmosphere prevailed for a while at the GHMC office, when all of a sudden, Congress activists from Liberty Square, Adarsh Nagar and Tank Bund rushed to the roads. Heated arguments were exchanged between the Congress leaders and police when they tried to barge into the GHMC office, leading to a minor scuffle. With the situation going out of control, the police arrested several Congress leaders and activists and shifted them to other locations to restore normalcy in the place.

However, V Hanumanth Rao along with Kisan Congress National Vice President Kodanda Reddy, former MLC Ramulu Nayak and Vijaya Reddy somehow managed to enter the GHMC office and sat in a protest before the GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose’s chamber. They also denounced the indifferent attitude of the GHMC Commissioner for disrespecting them after submitting a memorandum to him.
