'Yaum-e-Ashura' observed in Hyderabad with annual procession
Thousands of mourners participated in the procession, which was guarded by over 1,000 police personnel

HYDERABAD: The traditional 'Bibi Ka Alam' procession was held peacefully in Hyderabad on Saturday to mark 'Yaum-e-Ashura' on the 10th day of Muharram. The procession began from 'Bibi Ka Alawa' in Dabeerpura and passed through various parts of the city, including Bada Bazaar, Nayapul and Salarjung bridge. It finally reached Masjid-E-Ilahi, Chaderghat, on the banks of Musi River.
Thousands of mourners participated in the procession, which was guarded by over 1,000 police personnel. The procession passed off peacefully amid tight security cover & traffic arrangements made by the Hyderabad City Police.
At the iconic Charminar, Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand and Additional Commmisioners of Police (ACPs) Vikram Singh Mann, Sudheer Babu and Vishwaprasad offered 'Dhatti' to the Bibi Ka Alam atop the elephant Madhuri. It has been a tradition for centuries that the city police Kotwal welcomes the procession and offers his obeisance.
Commissioner Anand accompanied by senior echelons of L&O, traffic, monitored the procession and issued timely instructions to the field officers. He lauded the general public, organisers for their cooperation.
