Amberpet stray dogs attack: Telangana HC blames GHMC for boy’s killing

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Thursday came down heavily on the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and said that the corporation’s negligence cost the life of a four-year-old boy, who was mauled to death by street dogs on Sunday.

Reacting to the viral news of four-year-old Pradeep’s killing at the hands of stray dogs in the Golnaka area of Amberpet, the High Court on Wednesday took up the matter suo motu for hearing. Initiating the hearing on Thursday, the High Court termed the boy’s killing as ‘deeply painful’. It wondered what the GHMC was doing when incidents of this nature were happening in the city.

Squarely blaming the corporation and its negligence for the killing, the High Court wanted to know about the measures being initiated to avoid recurrence of such incidents. The High Court also issued notices to the Telangana Chief Secretary, the GHMC, the Hyderabad District Collector, Telangana Legal Cell Authority and the GHMC official incharge of the Amberpet area.

The High Court ordered the respondents to file their counter affidavits with full details on the incident. Aspects like payment of compensation to the boy’s family will also be taken cognisance of, it said.

The High Court later adjourned the matter to March 16 for further hearing.
