VIKARABAD: Youth from Hyderabad created ruckus by hosting bike and car drag races in Ananthagiri Hills on Tuesday. As it was a holiday on Independency Day, youngsters from the city travelled to the popular hangout and organised the races at Ananthagiri View Point. Enraged locals uploaded videos of the event on social media which went viral.

According to police, patrolling takes place regularly at the hangout spot but on Tuesday, the races were organised between 10 am and 1 pm when the officials were engrossed in security measures for Independence Day programmes. The police said that no permission was taken for the races. Additionally, air guns and sirens were used during the event which the police said was illegal.

Based on the footage available, the police are trying to hunt down the participants by identifying their vehicle numbers. The police informed that they racers would be booked under relevant sections of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) Act.

Vigilance Officer Raja Ramana Reddy and Vikarabad Divisional Forest Officer Gyaneshwar conducted a survey of the Ananthagiri View Point where the drag race was held. Based on the footage, they were able to trace down one of the car owners. Investigation revealed that two people had organised the race for a contigent from Hyderabad with 40 people, 16 cars and few bikes. Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader P Karthik Reddy appealed to Vikarabad Police to ensure that such incidents weren't repeated. "Anathagiri is such a peaceful and beautiful region and this behaviour will not be tolerated," he tweeted.
