VIJAYAWADA: The three-day ‘Open House’ programme hosted by the Vijayawada Police begins on a grand note with students and youngsters participating in the event at the Armed Reserve (AR) Grounds here on Saturday.

Vijayawada Commissioner of Police Kanthi Rana Tata inaugurated ‘Open House’, an expo being held to display weapons used by the police personnel as part of the Police Martyrs’ celebrations till October 31, 2023.

Kanthi Rana Tata said that every year on October 21, the Police Commemoration Day was celebrated in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending the nation on October 21, 1959, at the Indo-China Border. The main objective of this open house was to explain to the people about modern weapons used in the police department and how cyber crimes were being committed, he said.

The CP said that students and youngsters would be allowed to visit the nearby police stations during these three days and learn about the duties of police and weapons used by the force to face the extremists and Maoists. Showcasing the weapons to the students and youngsters, Kanthi Rana Tata explained to them about various arms like AK-47 machine guns, pistols, grenades, wireless sets, metal detectors, manpacks, body-worn cameras, displayed during the programme.
