AHMEDABAD: India faced another heartbreak as they lost the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The team had remained undefeated until the final, where Australia emerged victorious by six wickets, securing its sixth World Cup title.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Australian Captain Pat Cummins made a strategic decision that paid off. The Australian bowlers executed their plans effectively, preventing Indian batters, except for KL Rahul (66), Virat Kohli (54), and Rohit Sharma (47), from making significant contributions. India posted a disappointing total of 240, getting all out in 50 overs. Mitchell Starc topped the bowling charts by claiming three wickets (3/55).

In defense of their score, India needed early breakthroughs. While David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Steve Smith were dismissed early, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne formed a formidable partnership, guiding Australia to victory. Head (137) achieved a century, and Labuschagne (58) secured a half-century during their 192-run partnership. After Head's dismissal, Australia scored the remaining two runs, finishing with a scorecard of 241/4 in 43 overs.

Scorecard

  • India: 240/10 (50 overs)
  • Australia: 241/4 (43 overs)
