SHADNAGAR: IPL cricket betting took the toll of a 19-year-old young man who died by suicide after losing money to friends in Ranga Reddy district on Thursday. The incident happened at Narlaguda Thanda under Giraigutta Thanda of Farooqnagar mandal in Shadnagar constituency.

According to reports, Angoth Amaru of Narlaguda Thanda has two sons and a daughter. During the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on Wednesday night, Prakash, the younger son of Angoth Amaru, indulged in betting with his friends and punted on Punjab Kings. However, as the Delhi Capitals team clinched a victory, Prakash's friends pressured him to cough up the betting money.

Under pressure and unable to pay, Prakash ended his life by hanging at his house. The villagers, who expressed concern over the death of the young boy, consoled the family members and demanded that the police take strict action against the betting racketeers to save the youth from yielding to illegal things.

The IPL cricket betting has spead even to the villages with the advent of technology. The youth are yielding to betting in big numbers as it has become easy to participate, thanks to new apps and some of them are ending their lives after suffering heavy losses.

It is estimated that cricket betting to the tune of a staggering Rs 2 and 4 crores is being carried out daily in the Ranga Reddy district.
