CHITTOOR: Three Karnataka policemen were killed in a ghastly road accident after their car overturned at Putalapattu in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Sunday. In an apparent case of over-speeding, the ill-fated vehicle, carrying a police party from the neighbouring Karnataka, first rammed into the road divider before losing control and turning upside down.

Three other cops, part of the team, sustained grievous injuries. The police team was proceeding on a case duty when the mishap occurred. In the wee hours of around 4:30 am, the car hit the divider at the entrance of the P Kothakota bridge underpass.

The deceased were identified as Sub-Inspector Avinash, Police Constable Anil and a private driver whose name was not immediately known. Another Sub-Inspector Dixit and constables Saravana and Basava survived with injuries. They were being treated at the Chittoor government hospital.

Chittoor Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Reddy inspected the accident site. Case is being investigated.
