3 killed, 5 critically injured as car rams into container lorry in Nellore district

NELLORE: Three persons, including a four-year-old boy, were killed on the spot while five others seriously injured in a ghastly road accident in Nellore district on Thursday. The mishap occurred when a car rammed into a stationary container lorry from behind on the national highway at Baddevolu crossroad near Manubolu.
According to information available, eight members of a family of a VRO Nageswara Rao, hailing from Padugupadu in Kovvuru mandal, were travelling in a car to a Chennai Hospital from Dameragunta of Kodavaluru mandal. After reaching the Baddevolu Cross Road, the car crashed from behind into a container lorry parked on the roadside. Three of the inmates died on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Mercy (15), Sanath Tej (4) and car driver Rama Rao (35). The condition of the five others injured in the incident is said to be critical.
The police, with the help of locals, extricated the three bodies from the severely mangled vehicle before rushing the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. A crane had to be used to remove the ill-fated vehicle that got stuck under the container lorry under the impact of the collision. A case was registered and the investigation is going on.
