7 members of Ramannapet family get 2-yr jail term for domestic abuse

The court also imposed a Rs 1,000 fine on each of them

RAMANNAPET: A local court on Tuesday convicted a man and his six family members to two years in prison for domestic violence in Ramannapet in 2015.

The court also imposed a Rs 1,000 fine on each of them.

According to the Rachakonda police, the accused Akkanpally Ravi, a photographer by profession, married Sreesha in an arranged marriage in which her family paid Rs 10 lakhs net cash and 15 tulas gold and household articles as dowry.

Her husband, her mother-in-law A Koteshwari, her brother-in-law A Kiran, her sister-in-law C. Kalyani, her husband C Srikanth Reddy, and two others began harassing her physically and mentally six months after their marriage.

She then disclosed the harassment to her parents. Her parents warned the accused as well as her in-laws to never do the same act again. She was blessed with a daughter on November 4, 2012. Despite their warnings, the harassment continued and she was necked out of the house.

A panchayat was organised by her parents on November 14, 2013. Despite mediations, the accused and his family kept harassing the victim. She was also made to sign a note apologising to her husband and family and stating that they would not be held liable if died by suicide.

A case was registered at Ramannapet police station based on the victim's allegation; during the investigation, the Investigation Officer G. Raja shekar, Sub-Inspector of Police, Ramannapet police station collected evidence and filed a charge sheet.

During the trial on Tuesday at the AJFCM Court in Ramannapet, Judge S. Chandana sentenced Akkanpally Ravi, A. Koteshwari, A. Kiran, Chirra Kalyani, Chirra Srikanth Reddy, J.Janaki Ram, and J.Laxmi to two years in prison and a penalty of Rs. 1,000 each.
