Cyber crime cops arrest habitual fraudster, seize Rs 8.9 lakh in Telangana, AP

HYDERABAD: The Cyber Crime Police of Rachakonda arrested a habitual Cyber Crime offender Sirigidi Praveen (26) in Kochi of Kerala on whom 13 cases were registered and brought him to Hyderabad on transit remand and sent him for Judicial remand. They seized two mobile phones and froze five bank accounts for total amount of Rs 8.9 lakh.

Reportedly, the complainant, who belonged to LB Nagar, was cheated to the tune of Rs 2.6 lakhs by Sirigidi Praveen, who impersonated an MLA’s son and promised to give VIP tickets of an international cricket tournament.

During investigation, it was found that Sirigidi Praveen (26) of Srikakulam was behind the fraud. They found him in Kerala, from where he was arrested and brought here. During police custody he confessed to the offence and also admitted that he was involved in 12 other cases registered in different police stations of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports, Praveen and his associates were addicted to online betting and a lavish lifestyle. They chose to commit cyber fraud to earn easy money. They used social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp etc.

The police appealed that it was pertinent that the citizens need to exhibit utmost caution and rationality while dealing with the suspicious persons and activity over online. But still if they get defrauded, they need to report Police on toll free number 1930 immediately or log on www.cybercrime.gov.in with all relevant information
